This single-story 105,000 sqft structure includes a gymnasium with seating for 800, an auditorium with seating for 450, a full-service cafeteria/kitchen and a pool, which includes observation seating for 200. The media center contains over 10,000 volumes. Thirty-eight teaching stations are included and serve grades 7 through 12.
The district is building an addition to the school with Gundlach Champion serving as the construction manager. The project was completed in 2010.

Houghton Portage Township Schools – Field House and Band Room Addition
The Project consisted of a gymnasium and band room addition to the existing Houghton- Portage Township High School. Work included selective building demolition and preparation of the site for addition. Foundations were cast-in-place concrete along with slab-on-grade, exterior masonry envelope and interior masonry partitions. The building had concrete slabs on steel joists and metal deck, as well as precast planks with topping, and membrane roofing system over steel joists and metal deck. Finishes throughout include paint, flooring, and acoustical ceilings. A full compliment of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems were installed as well. Gundlach Champion served as the Construction Manager for this project. Construction completed Fall of 2009.
